Keynote 10 | 'He aha te mea nui te ao? He tangata he tangata, he tangata!' What is the most important thing in the world, it is the people, it is the people, it is the people.

Over the past two decades, New Zealand's higher education sector has embarked on a transformative journey to build its indigenous workforce and enhance cultural capability. This presentation will explore the multipronged approach taken at various levels—sector, organisational, cohort, and individual—highlighting the challenges, achievements, and milestones that have shaped this journey.

We will delve into the context that necessitated this transformation, examining the key lessons learned and the critical levers and tipping points that facilitated progress. From policy shifts and strategic initiatives to grassroots movements and individual contributions, the presentation will provide a comprehensive overview of the factors driving change.

Additionally, I will share personal reflections on how to embed these learnings into professional and personal development. Join me as we discuss the ongoing efforts to build a more inclusive and culturally capable higher education landscape in Aotearoa, New Zealand.
