AHEIA Fixed Term Contract Update

25 November 2023

As a result of some significant lobbying efforts from AHEIA, the Federal Government announced Friday 24 November 2023 that the Fair Work Regulation (Fixed Term Contract), which provides an extension to large portions of the higher education sector in respect of upcoming fixed term contract limitations, came into effect.

The outcome is a six month extension to the introduction of the fixed term contract provisions. AHEIA will use this time to work with the Government and NTEU to further clarify the fixed term contracting provisions.

A copy of the Regulation extending the period of implantation by six months is available here: https://www.legislation.gov.au/Details/F2023L01545
