University of Newcastle - Enterprise Agreement Reached

27 July 2026

AHEIA Member, University of Newcastle, has reached a new pay and conditions agreement with its staff.

The university had advised AHEIA that the outcome is the result of a proposition put to staff who gave their overwhelming support, with more than 96% of people agreeing with a total pay increase of 15.2% over the next 3.5 years.

University of Newcastle Vice-Chancellor, Professor Alex Zelinsky, said he was very pleased with the development and agreement of the proposal and congratulated staff on their approach to negotiations. He said it demonstrated what could be achieved with sensible discussion and a desire to expedite negotiations.

University of Newcastle has committed to provide 17.5% employer superannuation contributions for casual staff from 1 January 2030. However, this commitment is not included in the new agreements.

The University is especially grateful to the Fair Work Commission, which assisted the parties narrow and ultimately resolve final bargaining matters, leading to the agreement.
